| 内容記述 | From the viewpoint of occupational sociology, traditional requirements for some professions such as lawyers and medical doctors have been approved in public. With advances in science and technology, however, their professional eligibility has changed. Researchers have pointed out the need to establish new concepts of old professions (traditionally prestigious professions) and modern professions (technical and scientific professions). In the past, professionals were largely in independent practice. These days, many professionals are employed by an organization. We have to study professionalism, focusing on qualified personnel. Therefore, studies of professionalism in nursing need to consider the fact that most qualified nurses are employed by hospitals. To let them pursue a professional career, nursing tasks should be accomplished by none other than qualified nurses. Additionally, an important characteristic of nursing tasks in the hospital is that nurses need to work as a team, which is different from other qualified medical personnel. The essential factor for hospital professionalism is to perform management function in treatment given in places such as inpatient and outpatient wards. The function is carried out by the teamwork among nurses. It is quite difficult to replace hospital nurses in a team and in management. It is necessary for them to learn a lot about hospital management in addition to the knowledge and skills in nursing. Taking these points into consideration, hospital nurses should be regarded as professionals. |
